Yes, Criagslist gets a lot of Traffic and we should find a way on the site to promote what it is that we are doing. There is a huge market of potential future amateur players in there and we need to take advantage of it, seeing that its free to adve…

Love it Benny Keep doing what you are doing! Here is more video that I think needs to be put out there to educate those people that don't know anything about the sport. http://www.youtube.com/user/Jaialai12#p/a/u/0/Bo4L83VQjPM Michael

I have been talking about this for a number of years now and don't plan to change. Anything is possible if you make it up in your mind that you are going to stand by it until it has a chance to become a reality. I this unique sport of Jai alai that…

I have never posted a reply on this site, so I don't know if I did this correctly. I would just like to say that I find it unbelievable that someone has tried so hard to open an amatuer jai alai location. Mat is not only the man of the hour, he is t…

How can we keep the sport alive?

Jai alai is a sport that should be spread around the country here in the US. Its a sport that you love and hate at the same time.

Check out Jai-alai Athletic Society, Inc. They have some pictures where the kids are learning to play, and I love it.
Down there in Florida, there is not age limit that you have to be in order to go into the frontons. A few years back when the Frontons were up and running here in Connecticut, the state passed a law making it that you had to be 18 in order to go into… Continue

Sorry, I didn't realize that this was not in the open forum. But now that we have it started I suggest that we keep going with it and have people come here to talk more about what going on in the community. One of the things that I have notice is that the Basque community that knows Jai alai is not coming together "per say" and protecting thier intrest in the sport.

When one of the Frontons like Orlando is getting ready to close the doors, My feelings are that someone should talk to some of the wealthy people that live in Spain and see if they would be willing to invest by purchasing the fronton as a real estate transaction, along with thier some of thier Wealthy American Counterparts.

That is only one of the reasons that I feel the Jai alai industry has done so poorly over the years. Before the Hartford, and Milford Jai alai closed the doors I suggested that instead of each fronton fighting for its own survivial the Industry should work together to stay in business.

It goes right back to what I said yesterday that a goup of Electrical Batteries will generate more current then a single battery if they are working together towards a common goal. That my believe as to why the Casino's were able to push the fronton's here in the Northeast out of Business.

Guess that divide and conquer philosophy works! The frontons that are closed like Big Bend should be turned into a sport Complex something that I have been saying for sometime now and promote the sport of it and not so much the gambling aspects of the game. Don't get me wrong the two go hand an hand, but don't underestimate the potential of taking things in a different direction.

That market is huge if you can get the kids out there with a cesta on thier hands, and teach them to play the sport, like Benny is doing. Once they get involved with playing the sport they will seek out the gambling aspects of it down the road which is your future gamblers.

Hi Michael,
You are certainly right about Christian, Jai Alai and this great website. I'm going to try to get in touch with many of the guys I used to play with and others that I watched for a couple of decades and introduce them to this website. Now that Ft. Pierce (Florida) closed their amatuer league, the only place left for me to play is in Orlando. I make it there about once every year and a half. And though it's not quite as thrilling as playing professionally, I really miss the group of 10-15 guys I used to play with on the weekends in the 70's and early 80's behind stores like K-Mart with Lacrosse balls. Now days, I keep a couple of cestas and a lacrosse ball in my car and whack the ball against the walls of raquet ball courts as long as no one is around. (When I can't stand not playing anymore!) Take care! Dave Grix

I Michael, glad you have chosen me to be your friend, I play paleta goma here in Argentina in this tool Argentina almost has won every world cup in trinquete and fronton, but I like everything that is related to pelota vasca, and of course the cesta punta or jai alai.

hi, michael. it sounds like you are good for the love of basque pelota.

i moved to florida in 1990 from ct.1976, i watched players like echeva,4decadepro and danny open up the hartford fronton, i bought my first cesta at bridgeport and was at the grand opening of milford amateur.

good luck with keeping this great sport alive...

Hi Michael,

The link for the shop is as follows: http://www.euskaljaialai.com/jaialai/index.php?m=tienda&a=view
Overthere at least you can see the pictures and understand what the shop is about. They have synthetic pelotas, plastic cestas, helmets, T-shirts... it is not much but it is close to a real Jai Alai shop! ;-)
I know that in the past they have sent some good overseas to the US, or Latin America. If you need some kind of translation I will be glad to help you

Best regards from Bilbao
